Our program of the intercultural week 2024 in English

Our program of the intercultural week 2024 in English

Dear fellow citizens,

In Bayreuth, there are many different forms of action and events for democratic engagement that show how many people from all generations and different cultural circles are involved and prove that they care about our democracy.

We want to break new ground this year with the motto: “New spaces”. We are combining the Intercultural Week with the Long Night of Democracy under the headline “Intercultural Week meets Long Night of Democracy 2024”.

On 2 October 2024 in the Rotmainhalle in Bayreuth, you can attend the

“Market of Democracy – Diversity – Tolerance – Respect” in the Rotmainhalle in Bayreuth. We are already looking forward to seeing you! This will be framed by an exciting and colourful stage programme.

As every year, the Intercultural Week will kick off with the International Church Service (INGO) in the Bayreuth City Church on 21 September 2024. The aim is to make our network in Bayreuth visible, which has been committed to diversity, tolerance, democracy and against all forms of group-related misanthropy for many years. The offers and information are intended to encourage reflection, raise awareness and promote mutual understanding, but critical scrutiny is also desired. We also want to reach out to people who would not seek us out on their own.

We want to talk to each other, exchange ideas and also engage in controversial discussions. We want to enjoy music and culture, laugh and celebrate. I would like to thank everyone for the preparation and organisation. Thank you to all of you who, not just today, but every day anew, are committed to a free, peaceful Bayreuth characterised by diversity.

I cordially invite you to come by on 2 October 2024, and especially to the start of Intercultural Week, which we will celebrate together with an international church service (INGO) in the town church.

Thomas Ebersberger
Lord Mayor of the City of Bayreuth
